The Act

Following an extensive consultation amongst communities, organisations and individuals across Scotland over the summer of 2003, the Antisocial Behaviour etc (Scotland) Bill was introduced in the autumn. The Bill was approved by Parliament in June 2004 and received royal assent on 26 July 2004. Many of the measures in the Act came into force on 28 October 2004 – less than a year after the Bill was introduced.

The 2004 Act is part of a wider national strategy for tackling antisocial behaviour that aims to bring about a long term step change in people’s attitudes and behaviour.
